About MultiChoice Ghana

MultiChoice Ghana is a joint venture with a local businessman Richard Darko which was established in 1993 and today operates from five offices including a state-of-the-art head office and studio in Accra.

The company has a substantial (and growing) impact on both the Ghanaian economy and the lives of its people. A measure of the extent to which Ghana has responded to our investment in the best local and international content is the fact that more than one million of our digital boxes have been sold to date. Our channels are available through five DStv and three GOtv packages.

At MultiChoice Ghana, we are proud of what has been achieved since 1993. We’ve brought the power of entertainment to thousands of Ghanaian families, empowered many very talented individuals and companies, created thousands of jobs and (something particularly close to our hearts) used our resources, technology and content to develop many thousands of learners and their teachers.

Today Ghana is boxing above its weight in the creative and television sectors. But we’ve only just scratched the surface. We will continue to develop amazing local talent and deliver high-quality entertainment, while in the process benefitting our communities, our people and our country.

Message from the Chairman of MultiChoice Ghana, Richard Darko

Contributing to Ghana’s economy

MultiChoice Ghana today employs over 130 people directly, working from five offices in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi. Added to these individuals are the hundreds who work for hundreds of DStv and GOtv installers, agents and retailers.

In 2015 a Ghana block was added to Africa Magic, a development which has required MultiChoice Ghana to invest even more in local productions, in the process fuelling our economic impact.

Since 2015 MultiChoice Ghana has invested US$18 million in its DTT network of 13 sites in nine cities across Ghana, plus spending millions more on local production and transmission infrastructure. We work closely with partners including the Ministry of Information, the National Media Commission and the National Film Institute to help foster creative and business environments in which everyone benefits. Just one outcome from the many close stakeholder relationships we enjoy is the fact that today MultiChoice Ghana hosts no fewer than 15 free-to-air channels, often in areas where access would otherwise not be possible.

Growing Ghana’s creative industries

Since 2005, when we introduced the Ahara channel, MultiChoice has commissioned great Ghanaian drama, film and reality TV productions while the stellar careers of actors including Majid Michel and Jackie Agyemang have been boosted by their exposure through the eight Africa Magic channels, which feature their own Ghana block.

In 2016 MultiChoice Ghana spent over US$100 000 on the local entertainment, drama and film industry, including the co-production and broadcast of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Our close relations with the Ghana Journalist Association has seen Ghana produce winners at the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards.

Investing in Ghanaian sport

Boxing has received a significant boost through various editions of the popular GOtv Fight Night which have unearthed several champion fighters. Millions have been invested in boxing and other Ghanaian sporting codes including the Ghana Premier League, GOtv WAFU Cup and the MTN FA Cup.

Enriching Ghanaian lives

We operate an excess of 80 MultiChoice Resources Centres (MRCs) in Ghana located all over the country and reaching tens of thousands of learners every day. The MRCs, which are funded, equipped and maintained by our people, give pupils and their teachers access to the power of DStv’s education packages as well as other world-class learning content.
